I heard the dictionary described as a collection of tired metaphors. Neil Tyson talks about math being the universal language of science, because it is the only method of communicating values with any precision. Orwell spoke of the meanings of words being linked to our psychology, and propaganda being able to warp truth. Hemingway was obsessed with the concept of capturing truth with the written word. When President Bush jr was asked if the US engages in torture, he said he would need to ask a lawyer for the current definition. So lawyers have replaced philosophers in describing and defining reality. Rule of law. Our laws are all built on the premise of the right to private property, (capitalism). As the environmental data evidence mounts, the right of private property becomes illegitimate, like slavery. Endless economic growth on a finite planet is not possible. The psychological foundation of the cult of capitalism is unravelling before our eyes. As Hemingway and Orwell witnessed for themselves, the ultimate truth will be decided on the battle fields. As always, fascism is the enemy.
